I set out to paint intense brightness and light. This is white; there's nothing brighter. I glazed around the spot of white heat with process yellow hue, graduated the glaze to deep cadmium yellow, then to cadmium orange, then vermillion. Once I brushed on the hot hues of red and magenta, I felt they needed to be foiled by the coolness of green, blue, purple... which became a meadow. Meadows need wildflowers; flecks and stalks... that aloft in the wind, swirl back towards the searing light, their source of life. At once fierce with heat and swift breeze, candied with petals that are still soft to the touch, "Meadow Blaze" is alive with forces of nature. The deep 1-1/2" edges of your canvas have been painted as extensions of the main composition.
